Alternate Six Sigma
John Porcaro: Spiritual Six Sigma
Brian Miller wonders if Six Sigma can be used in a non-traditional setting, like a church. I'm not any kind of expert here, but it was a fun exercise to see how flexible the concepts could be. The reason I think they're so relevant to marketing is that the underlying concepts are pretty simple.
The article goes on to apply DMAIC to a church environment. I am learning more about Six Sigma myself, but why not apply to other types of organizations.
From what I understand, the idea behind Six Sigma is not so much reducing the number of manufacturing errors to one in a million, but to instill a culture of continuous improvement within the organization. The books talk about applying Six Sigma principles to service as well as to manufacturing.

Interesting thoughts re six sigma applied to religion... It certainly applies to the business aspects of religion - financials, etc.
My mind is heading in the direction of "defects" from a religious perspective. Is a defect a non-believer? or a believer who errs in their ways? Can we develop a measurements system? Can we influence a positive change in the defects?
Tantalizing concepts in applying Six Sigma to improve the spiritual index of the world...
You got me thinking....
Thanks, Far Mill
