Jack,
in our study about searching for in-house knowledge we found that even in this case some people use Google to find out local information (public part of it :)

We also observed that internet sets up the standards. People were saying "would be nice if search in our document management system would be like Google" or "people do not have any problems finding stuff they want on the web, so may be we should redisign our community pages to provide a comparable experience".

And - if you are interested in intranets - this paper is worth reading (not sure I'll have time to blog it ;) Stenmark, D. (2003). "Knowledge creation and the web: Factors indicating why some intranets succeed where others fail". Knowledge and Process Management, Vol. 10, Issue 3., pp. 207-216. - http://w3.informatik.gu.se/~dixi/publ/kpm.pdf
