Jack, excellent overview! Thanks. I've been working on something which has some of the characteristics you are looking for, although not all. One thing is tight integration with Technorati and Syndic8. At this point we are using those to discover information about the blog, but the possibilities, as you point out, are endless!

Take a look at Aggrevator: http://www.oshineye.com/software/aggrevator.html

It's in beta and has a very different approach based on scoring. It has OPML import and export so it should be easy for people to experiment with. It also offers the kinds of arbitrary sorting you were asking about.

As everything is stored permananently in a MySql database you can read all your entries offline and if you want to go from an entry to the website you just click on the link.

Steve Borche of Connecting the Dots has an idea for "smart aggregators."
