Watching Eli in action

Recently, I had the opportunity to observe Eli Goldratt going through a Viable Vision offer with a client.  It is amazing to watch and listen to him go through the process with clients.  It also makes me more and more of a believer.

By the time a client gets to this point, they are ready to drink the Kool-Aid, but it was still interesting to watch the client's reaction to Goldratt walking them through the opportunity represented by the Viable Vision.  It didn't hurt that this particular client is ready to make the leap.  I wish I could have stuck around for the next client, for whom Eli could not foresee a Viable Vision.

[Viable Vision is about applying all the Goldratt methodologies to transform companies.  The baseline offer is to turn net profits into current annual sales in four years!]

Update: Changed URL for Viable Vision above to point to current VV schedule. That is 18 August 2005 in Raleigh, NC. 25 October 2005 in Dallas, TX. 17 November 2005 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Interesting that I was writing this article at the same time you were writing yours:

I'm not disputing the viable vision thing. I don't know enough about it to say much, but the way you talk about it makes it sound almost like hypnosis. Is that a good thing?

Jack D, That's why I made reference to "drinking the Kool-Aid." However, the Goldratt ideas have been hammered out over 20+ years since The Goal was originally published. And not every company that gets to the point of the Viable Vision offer will get one.

The thing I found fascinating was Goldratt's ability to walk the client through their number (current sales, current manufacturing capacity, opportunities for the Mafia Offer, etc) and have the results seem nearly obvious. At the same time, it's not obvious because companies haven't been able to do this on their own.

And to clarify for BobV. The Viable Vision is that in four years your profits will be at least what your sales are today. If you make $3 MM in sales today, in four years the Viable Vision will take you to $3 MM in profits with the corresponding changes in sales and operations to get you there.

Umm...not exactly very updated when their whole Viable Vision schedule stops at 2004.

It seems that the status of the existing VV offers are rather hush hush. Does anyone have any information regarding the progress of any VV projects?

Our company is a VV company. We are fairly early stage but progress and change has been dramatic. We wouldn't drink the Kool Aid unless we first tasted the flavor and knew what we were drinking. We wouldn't spend the money either.
