No such thing as knowledge worker

In Gerry McGovern's current New Thinking newsletter/blog, he has an interesting argument that there is No such thing as knowledge worker

There is no such thing as a knowledge worker in the sense that we have agricultural or factory workers. All knowledge work is first and foremost a management task. Of course, strictly speaking, management is a type of work. However, in knowledge work, everyone is a manager to one degree or another.

Much of what he suggests in the article might be familiar from the personal knowledge management world as well.  The individual knowledge manager, as McGovern phrases it, is responsible for using their brain as they go about their roles in the company.  Knowledge management, then, is about giving people the tools, skills and direction they need to accomplish their work.
