A little R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

I love this one from David Anderson on R.E.S.P.E.C.T

So, if you feel you've got colleagues who aren't showing enough respect, ask yourself this... Are my colleagues being courteous? Do they listen and give of their time reasonably? If so, and you still don't feel they respect you, then you need to look in the mirror. What would it take to earn their respect?

Courtesy is the baseline behavior.  But without respect, it is difficult to get things done in any collaborative manner.  How tightly intertwined are respect and trust?

Funny, I've been thinking the same thing. How tightly coupled are trust and respect? I am struggling to articulate an answer to this. I'm not even sure I know how to evaluate the question. Perhaps some research in sociology is required?
