Collaboration killers for Eric Mack

Eric Mack is looking for anecdotes on How to kill collaboration & productivity with bad policy:

I'm preparing for an upcoming speech and I would like to collect some real-life examples of how bad policy decisions by management have killed collaboration. I invite you to post your stories here. Feel free to do so anonymously, if you wish. I'm just looking for examples.

I haven't an anecdote directly, but one of the things I've done in my KM class is to ask for activities that encourage or discourage trust in an organization.  I think there is a direct connection between trust and creating an environment where collaboration can happen.  And my PKM system isn't working very well today, as I cannot find the list I could have sworn I created during class.

I find your thoughts about trust extremely compelling, Jack. Trust is the only intangible that can't be doled out or tracked (yet(?)) by technology.

It's funny how these memes track - I just ran across this post from Anne Truitt Zelenka on trust as the 'secret sauce' for virtual teams.

The trust factor is critical to build upon and project accurately. eBay has a model for the online world with their 'star' ratings system, just as my friends and family reflect my personal rating system in the real world.
